By default, Virtru is configured to remember users who have signed into the Secure Reader to access secure emails or files. Once you select your email address from the recipients list, users moving through the Sign in with Google/Office365/Outlook or verification link pathway should not need to regularly reverify.
If you select the Use another email address option, you're given the option to select Remember me. This allows you to return to the Secure Reader later on without having to verify your identity again. This is a great way to save time if you frequently receive encrypted emails and files.
However, there are some configurations and scenarios that can lead to the need for frequent re-verification.
Scenarios that Require Re-Verification
In order for Virtru to remember users across sessions, the browser must have cookies and tracking enabled. If a user is in a private browsing session or on a pubic session where cookies have been blocked or a Do Not Track setting has been enabled, then users will be routed through our verification code pathway. This will allow a user to read a message but will require re-activation on subsequent attempts.
The following links provide details for managing cookies and tracking settings on some common browsers:
Even is a user has logged into the Secure Reader with their provider or used a verification link, there are some scenarios that will require a user to re-verify.
- Virtru verifications are browser and device specific. If a user switches browsers or machines, they will need to complete the verification process in this new environment.
- If you select “Logout” from the Secure Reader menu in the top right corner of the Secure Reader, you’ll need to verify again the next time you visit (just as you need to re-enter your password if you manually log out of Gmail or Facebook, for example).
- If you leave your secure message open and idle in your browser for 15 minutes, we’ll automatically log you out to protect the sender’s secure content. Before automatically logging out, a dialog box below will appear to offer the option to Sign out or Continue session.
- Finally, if you manually clear your browser cache or have configured your browser to automatically clear cookies at the end of each session or at some other regular interval, you will be asked to re-verify during your next attempt. Since cookies are used to store verification information, if the cookies are removed, you’ll need to verify again.
