About
If Virtru suddenly appears to be missing from Gmail, don't worry. The plugin may have simply been disabled or deactivated and can be back up in no time if you follow the steps outlined in this article.
Instructions to get the Virtru toggle back
If the Virtru toggle is no longer appearing in the Gmail Compose window, then it may be failing to hook into the interface properly. Navigate to chrome://extensions and check to see if "Virtru Email Protection" is installed and enabled.
When installed and enabled, the Virtru Email Protection extension will show a blue toggle:
A disabled extension will show a grey toggle:
If "Virtru Email Protection" is listed and enabled:
1. Hold Shift and refresh the extensions page.
2. Head to Gmail, hold Shift, and refresh the page.
If "Virtru Email Protection" is listed but disabled:
1. Click the toggle in the bottom right corner of the extension box so that it turns blue.
2. Head to Gmail, hold Shift, and refresh the page.
If Virtru Email Protection is not listed at all:
Download Virtru at virtru.com/install and follow these steps: Installing and activating Virtru for Gmail & G Suite in Chrome

- Check for extension conflicts. Other extensions may interfere with Virtru's ability to load. To test for conflict, disable all other extensions and refresh Gmail. If Virtru loads, then re-enable your extensions one-by-one, refreshing Gmail after each one, until the issue occurs again. This will identify the conflicting extension.
