About
The Virtru Outlook Desktop Extension (Desktop only) enables end-users to encrypt and decrypt messages from within Microsoft Outlook, creating a seamless user experience. The extension not only handles encryption of emails, but it can also handle decryption of previously encrypted emails. As the administrator of an organization, there are a couple different ways to deploy Virtru to your team.
Please Note:
Virtru offers a separate Outlook 365 Add-in (for Web, Desktop, Mobile) that is compatible with Windows Desktop 2021+ on Windows and Mac machines as well as any web version and mobile. If you wish to deploy that add-in, please follow the steps in this article: Install and Activate the Virtru for Outlook 365 Add-in (for Web, Desktop, Mobile)

Deployment Options
There are two use cases associated with the Deployment of the Outlook Desktop Extension:
User Based
In a user based installation, the application is installed within the specific user profile and is only available to that user. In these cases, the user will need to install (and uninstall) the standard (perUser build) of the application.
Instructions can be found here: Installing and activating Virtru for Outlook Desktop
Machine Based
In a machine based installation, Virtru is installed by an endpoint "Administrator". In these cases, a perMachine build is used, which is scriptable and can be used with automation tools or endpoint management tools.
