DLP rules can indeed scan attachment content. However, Attachment Content rules work differently depending on your Virtru product. This guide outlines how Attachment Content rules work in different situations.
This guide only illustrates where attachment content rules work and what types of attachments are scanned. To learn how to create and apply attachment content rules, among other types of email (DLP) rules, see Creating Custom DLP Rules
Note about Default Email Rules
These rules ("Stock" or "Outbound") do not scan attachment content. Custom rules can be created to scan attachment content. HIPAA Rules (some subscriptions only) can also be modified to scan attachment contents. This article covers custom rules that you can create aside from the default stock rules.
